The figure of the entrepreneur, or entrepreneur, has become a symbol thanks to the success of start-ups in our economy.

The role of the entrepreneur

The entrepreneur is the one who combines capital and workforce in a business to organize these two resources to produce a service or a product and generate value.

The entrepreneur, therefore, is the one who starts the business, or the start-up , and who assumes the risk of committing and investing time and money in an undefined activity, which unfortunately fails in 80% of cases. .

In addition to being the one who initiates and organizes, he is the person responsible (often entrepreneurs start alone or in a small team) of the various aspects of the business. Especially in the initial stage, the entrepreneur takes on all roles at the same time.

The entrepreneur must be the leader and the motivator and must be the one who thinks about accounting, billing and the tax situation. He has to deal with product development but also with customer and supplier relationship management.

Furthermore, the entrepreneur must develop the business model and the business plan of the company in order to understand how to invest strategically and know when to hire new employees.

With this paragraph we have seen what an entrepreneur is and what he does, but let’s see specifically what role the entrepreneur has in today’s society.

The modern entrepreneur

The entrepreneur, or entrepreneur in English, is one of the figures associated with the modern hero. Indeed, entrepreneurship is seen today as the ultimate goal of realizing a dream or an ideal.

The technologies and innovation that characterize our times continually create new opportunities to develop products and / or services that satisfy a need. The entrepreneur, with his innovative start-up , develops these new products in the hope of changing the market.

Entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship in English, is seen as a very risky and very demanding activity, which does not offer economic returns in the short term.

The start-up or business that starts this path has a very high probability of failing in the first 2 years of life, and even after having faced all these challenges it is not necessarily successful.

So why do we see more and more entrepreneurs and start-ups?

The commercial entrepreneur

Many people start their entrepreneurial journey with the dream of realizing their idea and having a high economic return.

This figure is what is called a commercial entrepreneur, who hopes that by combining capital and workforce he will one day establish his own company as a market leader.

This figure joins the definition of digital entrepreneur, who uses digital technologies to reduce the initial costs associated with starting a business and to reach consumers all over the world.

This type of entrepreneur usually focuses on blogging, e-commerce and dropshipping in particular .

These activities allow you to invest little capital (almost always your savings, however modest they may be) and your time, to start a business with good margins.

The social entrepreneur

The social entrepreneur, social entrepreneur in English, is a similar but completely different figure from the economic entrepreneur.

Similar, because it activates the same process of raising capital and organizing the workforce to create value for a final consumer.

Different, because the ultimate goal of the social entrepreneur is to create a social movement and have an impact on society.

This desire arises from situations of necessity, as in the case of climate change and the depletion of natural resources, or from situations of social inequality, such as poverty or social exclusion.

From these initiatives are born business models such as the circular economy, companies based on sustainability, on strengthening the role of women in the workforce or on inequality of income or rights.

Different categories of entrepreneurs

The entrepreneur does not refer to any specific sector, but can operate in any industry or sector in which he finds the potential to operate and create value.

There are some sectors where entrepreneurial activity is more common. Let’s go see the entrepreneurs in these sectors.

Building contractor

The construction industry lends itself very well to entrepreneurship, as if you have capital it is easy to build or buy real estate that brings long-term profits.

While buying a property has a capitalist rather than an entrepreneurial overtone, the decision to build real estate is seen as an entrepreneurial activity.

While the construction industry was littered with entrepreneurs building chains of real estate in the 1970s and following years, the market is now saturated and the state has created incentives to renovate rather than build new properties.

Artisan entrepreneur

The artisan entrepreneur is a very strong reality in Italy. It is in fact the one who, on his own or as a family business, starts his artisan activity and assumes the risks of this activity.

Unfortunately, this group of workers is decreasing, large chains and organizations are lowering prices, putting craftsmen in a difficult economic situation.

The path that many artisans are taking is to take advantage of new technologies to promote themselves and create a completely different experience from buying a factory-made jewel.

Farmer

The agricultural entrepreneur is the one who cultivates the fields and raises the cattle but who also deals with the transformation of raw materials considered directly connected to agricultural activity.

The agricultural entrepreneur differs strongly from the commercial entrepreneur in that he has benefits from an accounting point of view.

Furthermore, to become an agricultural entrepreneur it is not necessary to open a VAT number right away as breeding and cultivation can start as a hobby or spontaneous activity and only secondarily evolve into a more organized and profit-oriented activity, necessitating therefore of a VAT number.

Innovative entrepreneur

The trendiest entrepreneur right now is the one who focuses on cutting-edge technologies or business models to create an innovative start-up.

Innovative start-ups are incentivized by the state because they bring general economic growth to the country in which they are created, paying taxes and creating new markets for innovative products and services.

This passion for innovative start-ups comes mainly from Silicon Valley, the name coming from the silicone used for computer chips. This valley in San Francisco was the area where major computer and software companies revolutionized the world economy.

Now this area is famous for hosting more and more start-ups, Venture Capital , companies that invest in newly created start-ups, and Business Angels , single investors with entrepreneurial experience.

Becoming an entrepreneur

In general, becoming an entrepreneur involves many risks and requires a large amount of work, but it allows entrepreneurs to feel fulfilled and gain a lot of work experience quickly, growing and earning.

For those who manage to grow their business, after taking the risk and putting in a lot of energy, the reward is worth all the effort and effort.

Who becomes a successful entrepreneur must not only be a good worker with a lot of passion and luck (it takes that too), but must have a good business model and take care of billing and accounting, which are among the main responsibilities of the entrepreneur
