DHI

DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation, and the following is everything you need to know about this hair transplantation method:

Concept

DHI is a modified version of FUE courtesy of the DHI Global Medical Group. This method is relatively new and is easily the greatest technological advancement in this field.

Process

For a DHI hair transplantation method, the procedure is as follows:

  • First, the surgeon will apply local anesthesia to the operation site to numb that area.
  • After that, the surgeon will extract hair follicles from the donor site with the help of a special tool that has a diameter of 1mm or less.
  • Once the follicles have been extracted in groups of 2 – 5 individual hair follicles, those follicles are loaded into a patented implanter pen called a Choi Implanter Pen. This pen, too, has a diameter of 1mm or less.
  • Using this pen-shaped tool, the surgeon then inserts these follicles into the recipient area.
  • Unlike the FUE method of hair transplant, no slits, openings, or holes are made before the insertion. The tool creates the hole and inserts the hair at the same time.

Success rates

If you opt for the DHI method of hair transplantation, you get a non-invasive method. Moreover, the grafts are out of the body for only a reduced amount of time which, too, increases their survival rate.

Overall, DHI has a graft survival rate of over 90 percent.

Recovery period

Since no cuts are made, or stitches are performed, the recovery period in DHI is only a day. After 48 hours, you can get the bandages removed and discuss with your doctor what you can do or what you should avoid for better results.

Results

Since, in DHI, a tool is used to make slits and implant the hair at the same time, it gives the surgeon complete control over the depth, angle, and direction of the implanted hair. This, in turn, gives natural-looking hair.

Scars

In DHI, no cuts are made, and no stitches are performed to mend them. The surgery does not leave behind any unwanted scars or marks.

What is FUT?

FUT stands for Follicular Unit Transplant and is one of the oldest hair transplantation methods. The following is everything you need to know about FUT:

Concept

The first known hair transplant in the history of mankind was performed in the 1930s amidst the chaos of the oncoming war. Some Japanese surgeons were successful in using small patches of the patient’s skin containing hair to cover the hairless part of the head damaged by injury. Astoundingly, they also managed to revive eyebrow hair. This is how FUT came into existence.

Process

The following are the steps involved when the FUT hair transplantation method is being performed on a patient:

  • The surgeon or an assistant will redraw your hairline and mark the recipient area on the patient’s head.
  • Local anesthesia is applied to the operation site to numb the area.
  • The surgeon or an assistant will shave your head until your hair is about 2mm in length.
  • The surgeon will then cut out a strip of your skin [tissue] from the donor site.
  • An expert will remove hair follicles from the extracted tissue and prepare them for insertion.
  • Your scalp will be closed with stitches.
  • The hair follicles will be inserted into the recipient area of your head.

Success rates

In FUT, the success rate is quite low, at about 60 percent.

Recovery period

Since cuts and stitches are involved, the recovery period is 2 – 3 days.

Results

FUT is known to give unnatural-looking results, mainly a plugged look.

Scars

You will have the scar from the cut forever on your head.

Which is better?

Having gone through all the major specifications of both DHI and FUT, it can easily be said that DHI is far superior to FUT. FUT is a highly invasive and painful process when compared to the simpler procedure of DHI.

Moreover, the FUT hair transplantation method involves cuts and stitches that leave a permanent scar on your head. With DHI, you can be sure to have absolutely no scars after the surgery.

So to get the best out of your hair transplantation cost in India, you should go for DHI.
