MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) have been playing a vital role in promoting the development of the country over the years. Apart from employment generation, this sector also leads to the industrialization of major rural and backward areas. To encourage business in this sector, the government has recently implemented the Udyog Aadhar scheme, for which every small or medium-sized trader or entrepreneur can take advantage of the central or state-run schemes on compliance with the registration.

In order to ensure better subsidy and exemption benefits, the Government of India announced the MSME Development Act in 2006 according to which every firm had to apply for registration under the definition of MSME. But being plagued with tedious paperwork and prior policies, the ministry later in 2015 decided to set up an easy registration facility with a unique identification number in the form of MSME Udyog Aadhar, to enable wider coverage of MSMEs under the government algorithm. WHAT IS THE UDYOG AADHAR MEMORANDUM?
For easy registration of running MSME units, Udyog Aadhaar (Aadhaar Identification of Business Units) was introduced.
For MSMEs, UAM is a one-page registration form that authenticates their existence, bank details, owner, promoter details, and other required information. After submitting the UAM on the official portal of Udyog Aadhaar, the department issues an acknowledgment number for the applicant’s reported mail with a unique Udyog Aadhaar number.
Note: Since UAM is a self-declared document, there is no need to upload any supporting documents while applying for UA (Udyog Aadhar). But it has been said that any officer of the State or Central Authority may, as and when required, ask him to provide relevant documents to confirm the particulars furnished by the applicant.

HOW TO APPLY FOR UDYOG AADHAR REGISTRATION?
Step 1: Visit udyog aadhar registration online
Step 2: Enter the Aadhar number and related details of the MSME-linked entrepreneur and click on ‘Validate and Generate OTP’ (One Time Password).
Step 3: Enter the OTP received in the blank column and proceed to the next step. If you have not received the OTP then apply to link your mobile number with Aadhaar.
Step 4: On the registration page enter owner and business details along with bank and NIC and DIC code.
Step 5: After submitting all the details, verify the information and click on submit button. An OTP will be generated on the registered number. Verify OTP with the required captcha code.
Step 6: An acknowledgment number is then generated by the department which is mailed to the applicant and can be used for future references.
The Government of India has started another cycle of MSME enrollment which is known as ‘Enterprise Registration’. It will start from 01 July 2020 and there are continuous talks to make it concrete. The activity of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Yojana’ of the Ministry of MSME has started the cycle to make it easier to reach more people.
Union Ministry of MSME’s new online MSME/Enterprise registration system, which went live on July 1, 2020, has proved to be successful, with more than 11 lakh MSMEs successfully registered.
Ministry of MSME has updated the definition and registration process of MSMEs with effect from July 1, 2020. It has also set up a new portal for Udyog Aadhaar Registration, MSME/Enterprise Registration. Since then, the site has been running without a hitch. This portal is the first of its kind to be seamlessly linked with CBDT and GST network as well as GeM. Significantly, as a result of this integration, MSME registration has now become completely paperless.
All the field establishments of the Ministry including MSME Development Institutes, MSME Technology Centres, NSIC, KVIC, and Coir Board have been directed to provide full assistance to businesses for enterprise registration. Similarly, all District Magistrates and District Industries Centers have been asked to expedite the registration of MSMEs. The registration complaints of MSMEs are handled through the platform of CHAMPIONS, which has a network of 68 State Control Rooms and one Central Control Room across the country.
